A Conversation

I have another example today of the misunderstanding of mental health. Again it comes from a taxi driver on my way to therapy. Again it made me angry at the ignorance of the general public surrounding mental health.

Me: Lynfield Mount Hospital, please.

Him: Do you work there?

Me: No, I have an appointment.

Him (Turning in his seat to look at me with fear in his eyes): Are you…OK? I…need to know you’re OK.

Me (With an awkward laugh): I’m not going to hurt you if that’s what you mean…

Him: Aw, thanks, love. I can’t take anyone to Lynfield Mount unless I know they are OK first. Wind’s dropped hasn’t it…
